Will you get vaccinated against the H1N1 virus this fall? According to the UK’s Daily Mail, many National Health Service (NHS) nurses across the pond aren’t so keen on getting vaccinated. The recent article cites a Nursing Times magazine poll of 1,500 readers, which revealed that 30% of those polled said they would not be vaccinated, 33% might get vaccinated, and 37% would definitely get the vaccination. The most common explanation for refusing the vaccination was concern about the safety of the vaccine.

The UK’s Department of Health’s director of immunization said nurses who refuse the vaccine are putting their own health and their patient’s health at risk.

What do you think of this poll? Do you plan to be vaccinated? What are your concerns?

UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA is mandating a campus wide employee vaccination for H1N1 and those who are not vaccinated are required to wear a mask everywhere in the hospital for the duration of flu season. Mass uproar is occurring because of the concern of safety of the vaccine and personal reasons against obtaining vaccination
