A quick chat with…

Jennifer Sheehan, a 3rd-year nursing student at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, NY:

In five words or less, why do you want to be a nurse?
Opportunity, smiles, making a difference

What one thing do you need to do everyday before your first class?
Relax, breathe, and refocus on why I’m doing this.

What’s your favorite color scrubs?
Hot pink!

What’s the toughest class you’ve taken at nursing school?
Pharmacology

What’s the best way to study for a test?
I have to study after each class. If I study all at once, I might do okay on the test, but what am I really learning for my career? If I study after each class, I avoid cramming, stress, and I’m confident both on my test and with my knowledge.

On a scale from 1-10, how nervous are you about the NCLEX?
10++++++++++

When you need to relieve stress, what do you do?
Go for a run, take a long shower, write in a journal, or vent to my best friends. It helps to do anything other than focus on school, no matter what it may be or no matter how long you may have to do it. Even just 5 or 10 minutes can make a difference.

If you weren’t studying to be a nurse, what other profession would you like to try?
I’d either write for a fashion magazine or become a physical therapist.

What’s the first thing you’ll do on graduation day?
SMILE!

Where do you want to be in 10 years?
I’d like to be a Nurse Practitioner possibly involved with psychological or dietary experimental research.
